“We sit at the table closest to the doors. In the case that you came in as a shooter and you killed the first person you saw, I would die. I would not make it,” said one high school student in Iowa.https://nyti.ms/2LfCdsL

I sit in my classroom and think of other ways to protect my students other than just locking the door and hiding.

In the school district I work for made it mandatory for all doors to be locked at all times including all classrooms. It’s very sad and scary that we have come to this as a nation

Yes, we’re the same. They’re locked all day, but I try to think of what we could do to further prevent someone getting in, but there are two doors between my room and the room next door , so three entrances

What scared me is the fact that, after Parkland, I was thinking about hypothetical situations where I need to protect my sister in school during lunch.

I shouldn't be having to think about how to make sure my sister gets out of the cafeteria alive, I should be thinking about what little joke I tell her on our way home from school, or ask her how her day was. It's a harsh reality that shouldn't exist. But yet it does.

You don't "have to" you just are because you're afraid, and that's okay. You could never think about it again and you have over a 99 percent probability of never being shot at school.

You're right. I don't "have to," but rather it's involuntary. I just found myself planning a way out without even thinking about it. I just think there's something wrong with that.

When we get moved, teachers hope for a good room: big, close to a restroom, projector installed on ceiling, etc. The last few years, I’ve noticed a new addition to this wish list: a room that’s not the closest one to an entrance. It’s said in that joking/not joking tone.

This Problem could be fixed but a Fix is NOT what the left wants ... They want Your Gun or all these people screaming for Safety would have: Paid for Armed Guards/Teachers in Schools ... Medal Detectors and Locks on School Doors during Class Hours ... Speaker Entry Only .. by now

What ridiculous dribble. We on the left want safe schools for our children just like you on the right. We do not want to take anyone’s guns. Stop with the Fox rhetoric.

I can't imagine why they keep saying this other than to scare people into believing it. I don't want to ban guns. In fact, I'd protest against it. But keep things the way they are now? Blame everything but the common denominator? No way. It's got to stop.

Not just high school students. Middle schoolers are frightened as well. And so are teachers at all levels. I teach first grade and I think about it daily. My room placement. Exit possibilities. Door blockers. Distance from me to the door when teaching.
