The cyclists got off their bikes and made noise to ward the cougar off, as people are advised to do. At first, it appeared to work. The cougar fled. But as they were about to pedal away, the cougar returned, the authorities said.https://nyti.ms/2IwtG7c

That is sad. We learned in another continent with a big cat predators to wear a kid’s face mask on the back of the head. It gives the cat the illusion they are being watched. Their instinct is to attack from behind.

Sad ! Bicyclists must carry a weapon with them when pedalling through thick areas of trees where animals may lurk & in a group. Authorities should put signboards there warning trekkers, joggers and bicycle pedlar about animal attacks. Prevention is always better than cure.

The cougar did not kill because of any evil intent on its part, it was simply hungry and acting on instinct. Be cautious and respectful of predatory animals when you are in their territory to prevent this type of tragic interaction.

My kids went to Snoqualmie Elementary school. As the crow flies it’s a 10 Miles from where this occurred . Used to get alerts on my phone at work in Seattle when school would go on lock down for a cougar on the playground. Very scary. Not something to mess with. Heartbreaking

Cougar treated same as Native Americans. Europeans move into new territory. If native population is less than welcoming, Europeans kill native population. And invite more Europeans to follow.

People have been doing that since the beginning of humanity. Not saying it's right, but people have always done it.

Was advised by a game ranger that the best thing to do in the face of a lion is to stare it in the eyes, it will not attack. I have since used the strategy successfully to ward of attacks by dogs.

One cougar kills a cyclist and injures other. It"s nature's way of saying "You're invading my home." Now watch hunters come in to massacre the entire lot.
