The most pressing worry is that someone somewhere will use the spreading gene-editing technology to create a bioweaponhttps://nyti.ms/2KDBGzR

DIYbio gets a poxy rap. Contrary to alarmist headlines, the #DIYbio movement is an unlikely #biosecurity threathttps://go.nature.com/2kPlBvU

Duh, of course someone will. So why not do something to prevent that? Why isn't it painfully obvious that there are people who want to kill for the thrill of it and will use whatever weapon just to see what the killing experience is like?

People want to be remembered. To create a biological weapon would make someone remembered. To create life would do the same. We are well on our way to the falls of man that Swann predicted.

Sad to agree on this but you are right. How to swing that effort and energy away from notoriety/infamy to a positive way of existing, contributing and being remembered?

Of course. Technological advances, though purposed for good, always get flipped for evil as well. Unfortunately, that is because of the very real fact that man has both good and evil in him.

Science fiction mostly, nature has done the best job through natural selection. To make something that is virulent and robust is mostly impossible.

Gene-editing? My goodness. Why do you think messing with DNA will not have a negative effect on the mental and physical processes? We are not God. Certain things we just don’t need to tamper with. Unfortunately, our inventions are a snow ball rolling down a hill.

It would be a lie to say that it’s impossible. Initially someone would have to develop a genetic template that would be suitable to host such bad stuffs, then who knows? people are a creative bunch.
