Please everyone read this important article. 90% of people who need help dealing with addiction don’t get it. We must do more for the millions who suffer and die from this disease.

Instant gratification is the root of addiction - alcohol, drug, gambling, market speculation, sugar, fast food, etc.

Except if they’re black and brown, lock those people up. Where was all this compassion for the black and brown people in the 80s and 90s now all of a sudden we have to coddle junkies that use while they’re pregnant, these people need to pick themselves up by the bootstraps

The cure for cancer is to deliberately choose not to have the symptoms, right?

Wish someone would have told my grandmother on my dad's side that. Next they'll say the same shit about abuse victims or some shit, "just don't get hit".

What do you think they teach sufferers of the "disease" of addiction? Abstention. Or did you think the chips they hand out at meetings were for playing pogs?

That is exactly what I told my son who is an addict! Recently when he was feeling alone and ostracized, I told him that he'd seek help if he had cancer or Parkinson's or any number of maladies.

I support MAT and other evidence-based therapies for opioid addiction. But a logical extension of the 'it's just like cancer' argument would mean some addicts told they are terminal and no treatment beyond palliative care will be given (or paid for by insurance). Ready for that?

How about we just treat illness? Even people with cancer have to work hard to get care. I mean, have you looked at GoFundMe? It might as well rename itself "GoFundMyMedicalBills." Most people with cancer only get a limited amount of their treatment covered. Not easy to get.
