I hear both. So can everyone else. It honestly just depends if your brain chooses to focus on the high pitch or the low pitch. Because it really is ... BOTH. It’s easy to switch between hearing one or the other.

People are dying in Palestine. This crap is irrelevant. Our president stole the elections. This crap is irrelevant. Jared kushner spoke at the opening of the embassy, even though he’s not allowed security clearance... this crap is irrelevant.

I heard Yanny (pronounced like Annie with a Y up front). Not a hint of Laurel. My husband heard....the opposite, of course. Not as bad as having a spouse who voted for 45, but you can’t help wondering if this explains something profound about your marriage.

I heard Laurel last night and now I can hear both.

-
Those little ear muscles get 'tired' as the day wears on. Lo freq goes first, so you don't hear the hi freqs of 'Yanny' late in the day. In the morning, your hearing is rested and you hear all freqs better. (Why birds chirping and singing sound better in morning.)
-
This makes a lot of sense. I heard it as “Laurel” last night and “Yanny” this morning. By Jove, I think you’re onto something.
-
In 18th and 19th century England, it was considered impolite to say "By God". Instead, people would say "By Jove" iso as not be socially offensive. Hmmm? You said "By Jove" thereby being polite and intentionally avoiding a social offense. On twitter no less! That's special :)
