What was it about the 1980s that led to such a great divergence between the U.S. and peer nations in health care?https://nyti.ms/2L3x5Yq

That is when health care prices were deregulated. In the late 1970s, 30 states had all-payer rate setting.https://twitter.com/topherspiro/status/996094715689885696?s=21 …

There is an obvious reason why health care costs started to spiral out of control in the 1980's: price regulation was abandoned in favor of "competition." https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4195134/ … pic.twitter.com/X2Nv5Zf2HA

Republicanism. Nixon, Reagan, Bush I,II. Could have had world leading single-payer economy of scale, efficiency & performance as early as 1971 except blinded by greed & petty anti-collaborative political venom.

Sigh. ‘Good to have goals. ‘Better to achieve them. Ideals need to be communicated thru vision & supported by strength & unity. “United we stand, ...”. Good luck, your neighbor 🇨🇦

"Greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right. Greed works." (Gekko, 1987). That is what happened to healthcare in the '80s. And now there is a "president" cut from this cloth. #illegitimatepresident #corruptadministration

I can at least tell you something from a Health Care provider perspective. I have not had ONE raise in payment from ONE Major Medical Insurance company since 2007. Many have reduced payments to Providers. The money is going somewhere. Insurance companies are self sustaining.

Reagan and Thatcher bought fully into Ayn Rand fantasy. All of the distortions from wealth inequity to real wage stagnation to public education investment declines to negative political ads started then. We got the Kochs, Mercers, Adelson and, now, Trumps.
