In Opinion Op-Ed contributor Gerard Alexander writes, "A backlash against liberals — a backlash that most liberals don’t seem to realize they’re causing — is going to get President Trump re-elected."https://nyti.ms/2GaqNCJ

I don't mind. People get the government they deserve. I have more in common with Laotian villagers than I do Trump supporters. The Laotians don't tell me all my ancestors are burning in hell.

I feel like an alien in my own country much of the time, these days. Yet, for all the brutalization and marginalization of various non-white populations in the country today, I cannot agree we are getting the government we deserve, or the one most voted for. #PaperBallots

I come from a pretty rare place: I actually use the #FirstAmendment the way it was intended to be used in times of national crisis - to the fullest extent, as often as possible. Very few others can be bothered to do so, thus my estimation. We could've hounded him out week one.pic.twitter.com/hpGqliv2cu

If you look at it as a game: what strategies allow the greatest number of viewers for the longest time, it becomes a lot more interesting, and I've found, with the addition of art & photography, a lot of fun. Also, 1A protects almost everything, supersedes almost all laws.

My Apologies, you've broken the biggest barrier: doing it at all. If you're in NYC you could become the voice thereof. Larger lettering of course, and canvases, but I know space is hard to find. W/limited size, consider 1-word posts as large & pop-artistic as possible i.e. "LIES"pic.twitter.com/6wjKupUIfQ

I'll have to give canvas a try, though finding high traffic, relatively inaccessible, highly visible areas around here remains the trick. Didn't realize how small the lettering would turn out in the wild. Single word posting is a solid solution. Thanks for that.

This could've been a good column. But you can replace the word "liberal" with "conservative" and get the exact same column. People on BOTH sides are pushing their agendas obnoxiously. The Liberal exasperation is equal to the Conservative snicker and eye roll. Get real, @nytimes .

I don't see too many colleges throwing liberal speakers off of their campuses, oh that's right they all work there Aside from Roseanne, maybe Tim Allen coming back, conservatives hide in Hollywood just like they were communists of old One party is in your face one is silent

You don’t now. But be a student of history and see how many free thinking speakers who tried to promote civil rights on southern campuses were attacked and thrown off campuses in the 60s. How many Black Panther activists were given podiums back then. Study history.

You're not wrong about that, but look where it got conservatives in public opinion, it's something to avoid not emulate. Liberalism has become more aggressive but doesn't seem to have learnt anything from the echo chamber that made them unable to predict Trump's first victory.

A mistake by Hillary in campaigning and Russia collusion is not an indictment on Liberalism. That’s smoke and mirrors. The genesis of the anger is that we see a racist, misogynist, isolationist President marching us backwards and we don’t get how you all don’t see the same thing.

I think it goes deeper campaigns - liberals are now as aggressive as conservatives on dissenting voices. I'm not US so I don't get a vote, and would never vote Trump, but I worry. The anger is justified, but alienates. So you get the moral high ground but may lose the election.

Liberals are more “aggressive” now because maybe they’re tired of being painted as tree hugging hippies and are more willing to meet the Conservative aggression with the same fire. They also see the country they love and fought for slipping away. You can’t bully them anymore.

I don't bully anyone I love this country and all the freedom it provides, including free speech You should try listening to those who don't agree with, you might learn something I'm a libertarian btw, can't stand either party
