        For Japan & many others, helping the elderly maintain some dignity and independence is essential. If the issue is safety, then promote self-driving vehicles at the very least. Keeping the elderly isolated is not helpful.

        Someone too old to be driving almost backed over top of me in the Kroger parking lot. After a certain age, you should be required to take a competency test to keep your license.
