Weaned from using a key, drivers have left cars running in garages, spewing exhaust into homes. Despite years of deaths, regulatory action has lagged.https://nyti.ms/2KYnO4e

Come on, it's not that hard. My car has keyless go, so does my wife's. We've never gone off and left it running. For one thing, if you get out of the car with the engine running, a bell starts ringing to remind you.

I have. And maybe the newer keyless do, but many of the older don't.

Yes, I'm quite aware that many keyless cars don't sound when one parks and gets out of the car.

Only the government can prevent people from not turning cars off.

@msnbc All automobiles should be equipped with an automatic shut off of the engine when the vehicle is parked with no human input for over 20 minutes. Just like a screen saver. Give your car a tickle or it turns off and locks up. We have the technology to do this "safely".

My keyless car has a manual trans. Longtime, safety related, habit of always parking it in gear: problem solved. It stalls when I let the clutch out if I forget to turn off engine.

It's time for @Ford @GM @ToyotaMotorCorp etc to start making cars smart(er)! Automatically shut off when parked inside. Connect to IoT garage door openers to keep door open.
