The USDA has proposed new guidelines for labeling foods that contain genetically modified ingredients. But what will the GMO labels say?https://nyti.ms/2GaN2bP

I know you're joking, but labels that allowed tracking of production facilities and their labor conditions, probably wouldn't be a bad thing given how poorly we treat most of the people in our food system.

I was thinking labels with the ease of use as the proposed QR code with info about a specific modification. Companies aren't required to disclose a lot of production info, at least not without a prolonged process, so it would also be about making that info public.

That is because these don't change the final product, so the customer don't need them to compare products. I'm all for a label that show respect of some form of ethical standards (eg produced locally, working conditions of producer compatible with modern values...), but ->

[but] getting to know the details is one step too much into the process for various reasons: - the customer wouldn't be able to interpret the informations - once you start giving freely production informations, it's a slippery slope and there is no limit to how much ->

GMO should be better defined. As I read it, sounds like there are two types of GMO, scientifically modified and human controlled natual fertilization. Scientifically modified could be bad, but if plants are natually polinated using selected plants, it probaly is ok.
