After 2 black men were arrested in a Starbucks in Philadelphia, we asked readers: What do you do to feel safer in public spaces? Since then, in the past month, there have been similar encounters that have gone viral. https://nyti.ms/2rFlIgz pic.twitter.com/IK3akDpBEM

I've developed a clandestine racism test that I employ myself: What's the first thing that comes to mind, when you see a person of color - particularly a black male - regardless of the setting, then question how and why you arrived at that judgement, without knowing that person.

I wear a Detroit Tigers shirt when I cross the border from Canada back to U. S so that they like me more. I don't watch any sports.

I always have my VA ID with me at all times, right next to my Driver's License. I drive an expensive Car and you know how that goes. Plenty of "unofficial stops" that end with "Thank you for your Service." You can be pissed or prepared.

To me, it was no longer loitering when they identified that they were waiting for a friend for a business meeting. Inside a Starbucks is nothing suspicious. I see it all the time. Friend shows up then both go up to make an order and go about their business.

Because they told the manager that they were there to meet their friend for a business meeting. My read was that they weren't there a long length of time not doing anything. If you have a source indicating otherwise, I'd be glad to read it.

Starbucks is not a public restroom or waiting area. The area is clearly for patrons.

Clearly you've never been to a Starbucks or a restaurant before. "Patron" is not synonymous with "ordering immediately upon entering the building."

Nothing better than going into a business to BUY something and relax only to find out I can't get a seat because all the people sitting in all the chairs didn't purchase anything. This is insane.. if you don't buy something, get the hell out. Wait for the homeless to move in.
