California’s opioid problem is the worst in Eureka, where a rising homeless population and increased drug use have created a public crisis and battle with the city’s middle class over needle litter https://nyti.ms/2GaW88q pic.twitter.com/yOglEp3qVZ

Homeless encampments in Eureka, California, provided a place for people to sleep. When camps shuttered, they were forced to wander, and a needle litter problem intensified. https://nyti.ms/2GaQZgG pic.twitter.com/OnOO3hX13t

Some treatment options for heroin abuse and addiction in rural parts of California are on the way, but the challenge will be getting the people who need it most to buy inhttps://nyti.ms/2KVULhx

This is all true. There are few jobs in our more rural, far north towns. Less education and unskilled labor. That's really the problem. It's not surprising that many have turned to opiods. Not all can make millions on mj or drive hundreds of miles to SF/Silicon for work.

Why is Stacy chronically homeless? Is there nothing she can do to improve her situation? It is not blaming the victim to ask something of a person. Perhaps there would be fewer Stacys if society not only offered help but required those in need to do more for themselves.
