Australia did hold the record for many years with Martin Bryant. Then the US was like hold my beer.

Terribly sad. However their gun laws certainly have brought down the numbers. We could only hope for those numbers in a 20 year span. Thinking of all that lost their family there. Heartbreaking

I find it incredibly sad that my initial reaction to this was astonishment that it was only 7 victims. Idk if a shooting with 7 victims would even get reported here anymore. I’m so sorry for the families of the victims and so sorry that we are increasingly numb to this violence
-
Indeed. Here it’s huge news. Number 1 story in Sydney, 2,500 miles away from the shooting.pic.twitter.com/ecpWzv5tdY

I sincerely hope it will continue to be a rare event for you guys. 20 years is still too soon but it’s a whole lot better than daily. I’m so sorry for that poor family

So all that gun confiscation didn’t work after all. A firearm might have saved some some lives
-
Seeing as they haven’t had a mass shooting in 22 years until now, I’d say it’s working pretty well. How many have happened here in the US this year alone?
-
The article said second since 1996 confiscation, which is proof that people kill, not guns
-
I know I’m arguing with a bot, but fuck it. TWO mass murders since 1996 is enough to say gun control doesn’t work? Seriously?
-
What percentage of gun owners in America commit mass shootings compared to gun owners in Australia???
-
Considering this is the first mass shooting in Australia since 1996, I’d wager that percentage is still lower than ours, since we have a mass shooting seemingly every other month.

A lot of people in the comments seem to have missed the whole “worst in 22 YEARS” part. Oh, and that 7 people qualifies it as the worst.

Well, this incident - very tragic as it is - does not negate the fact that strict gun laws are crucial in curbing gun-related violence.
-
Australia’s has strict gun control.
-
And this was a murder-suicide. Not a high school shooting. Not a shopping mall shooting, not a country music shooting, not a grade school shooting......
-
I don’t think the victims care how this incident is defined, bud.
-
Yeah, but you seem to.
