And yet... "The ouster of Sereno from the Supreme Court is, ultimately, an internal matter of the Supreme Court. It has a self-sufficient and self-contained capability to decide things on its own that does not derive legitimacy from public approval."http://www.getrealphilippines.com/blog/2018/05/justice-is-served-now-that-sereno-is-no-longer-chief-justice-rest-in-peace-former-cj-renato-corona/ …

The Filipinos are elated. Real justice is now working. The Supreme court was relieved of one collared justice, Duterte's the best that ever happened to the Philippines.

This is most troubling. But it's not surprising given the arc of Duterte's reign of terror, supported by a majority of Filipinos who could care less about the separation of powers and the rule of law.

Yes, I've read the article and have been keeping a close eye on Duterte's thuggery. His record on #humanrights is already on par with that of the last bona fide dictator. I invite you to know your facts: https://www.hrw.org/world-report/2018/country-chapters/philippines … @hrw

My family thankfully left Manila for Honolulu over 80 years ago. That said, I do understand that the ongoing Filipino struggle with self-government is largely attributable to the legacy of Spanish and American colonization.

You were the one who decided to troll me. Sorry that your man Duterte has made the Philippines even more of an international embarrassment. Extrajudicial killings were repellant in the 1970s, and even more so in the 21st Century.

Sereno was not a qualified Chief Justice to begin with as she failed to file the required SALNs for the position. It was the Supreme Court En Banc who made the decision. Duterte has NOTHING to do with it. Stop exploiting this issue for your anti-Duterte narrative. #FailingNYT
