California is set to become the first state to require builders to equip every new home with solar powerhttps://nyti.ms/2KNeYpJ

And you thought housing in California was expensive before?...

Where I live it’s not uncommon to have a $400/month electric bill in the summertime. I’d happily trade that for $40 more on a mortgage.

This is the correct way to think about it. Now, banks should also offer favorable interest rates for mortgages that include solar. Homeowner has less monthly expense, ergo better credit risk.

Great idea but perhaps donations by the solar industry to California politicans should be investigated.

First we should be investigating the California Energy Commission. Did they get any kickbacks from the Solar companies?

I think that was the final nail in the “affordable housing” coffin in California. We’ll leave the light on for all you moving to AZ

Actually lowers the overall cost, solar panels save homeowners money. While home purchase costs will be higher, Energy Commission spokeswoman Amber Beck said home buyers "would see a monthly mortgage payment rise by $40, while their monthly utility bills would decline by $80."

No one is mandating you to buy a new home. If you don't like it, rent, buy an old home or move to coal country!!!

It was just a suggestion if you don't like solar. I just wanted to make sure of your other options.

About time. Looking forward to capitalists trying to explain how utility monopolies are about individualism and "free markets" but producing your own electricity on your own property is "big government".

Mandating solar on homes increases new housing costs and reduces housing supply.

Not my point. My point is to continue to allow ppl to have the option of solar or no solar. Not to mandate it
