How has the meaning of Cinco de Mayo devolved? “It’d be like if the Fourth of July were reduced to beer and hot dogs.”https://nyti.ms/2KEtzUz

Has not America reduced the Fourth of July “to beer and Hot Dogs”? “…people contented themselves under the shadow of Abraham's great name, while they repudiated the deeds which made his name great. Need I remind you that a similar thing is being done all over this country.” F.D.pic.twitter.com/ouC7i2eKnf

Cinco de Mayo is not the same as the 4th of July. It's the celebration of a victory by Mexican troops over the French, not Mexican independence. Celebrating Cinco de Mayo with Corona, taquilla and tacos is completely appropriate, especially in any country other than Mexico.

oh it clearly has been. 4th of July means nothing BUT beer and hot dogs and illegal fireworks.

Ad in fireworks and that is basically what the 4th of July is.

Maybe ask Latinos or Hispanics how they really feel about this before the drama. What's next, going after a school girl for wearing a Chinese dress?

I don't even know why you celebrate 5 de Mayo. In Mexico is just a civic holiday commemorating the defeat of the French Army on Puebla, in 1862 (Mexico eventually lost the war). Our Independence Day is September 16th.

Not for my family! We have Mexican food treats and Margaritas! Cinco de Mayo is also my late father's birthday! But we're in Texas.

Fourth of July celebrates US declaration of independence. Cinco de mayo is unrelated to Mexican independence.
