Only a few people have successfully navigated the troubled federal public-service loan forgiveness program. Here's how one social worker managed to do so.https://nyti.ms/2FKw2sz

The term "qualifying payments" is a problem. I've made the 120 payments, but they haven't all been "qualifying". Waiting to get a number from Fed Loan now.

        What made them not qualifying?

Each has to be under an income based repayment plan. You have to recertify income once a year. When I was late doing the recertification & payed more, that didn't count. If they put you in forebearance while they recertify, but you keep making payments, those don't count.

I wrote about it for my work newsletter and have been helping coworkers apply. I myself have been enrolled for about 6 months and should have 18 payments but FedLoan only has half of that logged.

Love how this article describes a "huge systemic failure" then just shrugs and says hopefully it will get better soon!

Glad he mentioned that having kids would’ve been a hardship and distraction—I was thinking the same thing! 🤔. Wish this had been around when I started out in social work...

Paying for education is a burden, paying to read the rest of an article is a bigger burden.

Working for the government should not entitle you for special benefits. Otherwise we will soon be a communist state with everyone working for the government.

That's idiotic. So the government will just keep hiring people regardless of the number of positions? Government has to justify every position because the funds either come from state tax revenue or grants. It's not easy to hire new people. Calm down.
