One evening, the squad’s director told 9 of the 36 cheerleaders they had an evening assignment. Some of the male sponsors picked them to be personal escorts at a nightclub. “So get back to your room and get ready,” the director told them. Several of them began to cry.pic.twitter.com/Mr3qJGHIhN

Several women decided to leave the team the following season. What happened overseas, they said, made them feel worthless and unprotected. In a statement, the Redskins describe their cheerleader program as one with a “safe and constructive environment.”http://nyti.ms/2FBfpiU

I doubt if anyone thinks it's just this team. Why would you even say that? Just because they all do it does not mean we can't speak up about this incident.

I am not saying that at all. The original comment drew a correlation between the Redskins team name and these allegations as if to say the team name and these allegations go hand in hand. My response was that the team name has nothing to do with it and there are other teams 2

I would not say that it has NOTHING to do with it. If they are willing to put up with one injustice, like a racist name, I do not believe it is a leap to think that treating women like objects for their pleasure is a leap. It's not BECAUSE they have a racist name

The two are not mutually exclusive. Yes, there are many abusers in the NFL. But usually if one can put up with one injustice, it speaks to character on other injustices. If we excuse things away as "small, nit picky things" the goal post of what is acceptable gets moved a little

But isn't that, unfortunately, human nature. Depending on what we love or value, many are willing to excuse nearly anything. It's sad.

I don't think it is human nature. True, we have to set boundaries about what we will accept & what we won't & that's the human condition. We would exhaust ourselves trying to right all wrongs. But I think we've swept WAY too much under the rug and accepted too many injustices

Look -- I'm sorry but if you sign up to be a cheerleader and then agree to do a topless photo shoot then you really don't get to complain. I know that's not "PC" or MeToo of me, but good lord.
