I didn't find it nearly funny sitting next to an "emotional support animal" which was clearly untrained and terrified of the plane. Instead I found it borderline abusive to the animal and dangerous to all of us within snapping distance.

I agree that if that dog was in fact a service animal it would of been trained much better. However it could be a Companion Animal which is not the same thing as a Service Animal.
-
Yeah, but at what point is something not medically required for a disability a major inconvenience or danger to other passengers? They're not trained for flights. They're not obligated to have their own seat. It creates spaces issues and threats for other passengers.
-
It's 2 different things. A service animal is an animal that is train to help someone to cope with a physical disability. A Companion animal is a animal that helps someone cope with a emotional/mental disability...

I love animals but this has become a real problem lately. At least once a month someone asks me to write a letter allowing them to take their "support animal" on the plane. If they have no prior diagnosis of anxiety (most cases) I refuse. People are taking advantage.

If you need a “support animal” on your flight, might I suggest a support beer instead. It’s been working for centuries

Great. Another idea for the airlines to charge another fee.
-
True. But I'd rather pay another fee to get my dog in the seat next to me vs. cargo area bc she's too big to fit under the seat in front of me.

Maybe not, but many animals die by being treated and stored like luggage. So deal with it.

I need to write to my state reps and have guidelines in Delaware created to keep mouth breathers from bringing their pocket pets into Applebee’s as a “service animal”. Most restaurants are too scared to say anything.
-
There are clear guidelines. Places simply refuse to educate themselves or employees as to the 2 questions and proper responses are abt what a trained task is. "Comfort" isnt it :)
-
I know. But when I one day have a show down with a someone who thinks her little yip-yap is a "service dog", it would be easier if I could just reference a delaware law and go back to my beer, free of yip-yaps and their owners.
-
That is where education is key as a service animal can be asked to leave if it is unruly. And i doubt the bar asked the two ADA questions as most don't. They simply ask "is that a service animal" and then let it go. It is unnerving. Can ruin a fine malt!

I rather sit next to an animal than a person!
#GoVegan -
And that's where we a re going. People don't like each so they direct all of this overboard attention to animals. We will move the world for a dog or cat and watch a person die without a care. Sad.

I will help the voiceless! Including anyone maybe that’s why I help animals & humans. As a special educator I believe in compassion & became a vegan for the voiceless!pic.twitter.com/ndPZDQUwbd
