Is it possible for white America to really understand blacks’ distrust of the legal system, their fears of racial profiling and the police, without understanding how cheap a black life was for so long a time in the nation’s history?

Black lives are STILL cheap. Just look at the unarmed black kids getting shot up by police, or thrown into prison for decades over BS charges, in order for private prisons to abuse them as slaves again.

It makes me remember my history and the plight of slaves that were forced into lives that you and I could never imagine. As humans we all should feel regret and some sense of guilt for these atrocities against human life.

These are THE very words of my mother when I questioned our west Tennessee family heritage of g-g-grandfathers killed fighting at Fort Donelson for the Confederacy: “We were wrong.” Not enough southern families get it.

Hard to believe this even happened in the country that is the "home of the free and land of the brave." We will never forget.
