Doctors can say what they want but if they are against universal healthcare and favor an unfair system that creates insane profits for themselves and crooked pharmaceutical industries, they can't really regard this as an "ethical dilemma."

Would that question be asked if the person had "ruined" their heart with overeating or other poor choices?

"Is a heart ever not worth fixing" seems like it really means "is a life ever not worth saving"

I'm not sure why addiction treatment is not a part of this surgery and medical treatment. When one is diagnosed with diabetes or has lap band surgery the treatment includes dietary recommendations and services as part of overall treatment.

Pills killed my mother and wife. Pills and booze my father, a best friend at 41, others. I'm 25 years sober. And alone, another interesting tidbit. It's all or nothing, and people don't get it. Everyone wants to quit when they are high. Resolve ebbs. Excuses will kill you.

Always be ethical limits, but the essential is to act in the best interest of the patient.

This is criminal. It’s like refusing to give a diabetic person insulin if they don’t follow a diet or exercise. That would be unethical. So too is this.
