Grace Mave, 12, barely survived an assault on her village in Congo in which her mom and siblings died. The attackers chopped off her left hand and slashed her head with a machete. For nearly 24 hours, she lay on the ground, pretending to be dead.https://nyti.ms/2JAKHcf

If the US wants to invade a country, I can name a couple of candidates in Africa. There’s no oil in it for you though but maybe they could use their military might for something other than personal gain.

I saw the tv interview with her and her little sister. Both missing limbs. It’s heartbreaking. America could be leading in aiding these impoverished and corrupt countries to be more people oriented. But, we have our own issues now.

And then ask yourselves why do they leave their country next time you raise your hand against refugees, build walls and tell them to "go home".

And you’re doing what exactly to be of help? Don’t put people down for offering prayers if that’s what they believe in. Your response is what’s wrong with our world. People don’t accept others’ opinions/beliefs and crap happens because of it

You can and should respect all people's beliefs but it's naive to think that offering prayers you can change something. Real actions must be taken.

Great reporting @nytimes on a troubling story however a CORRECTION is needed: Article mentions Congo as being the Africa's second most populous country; it, by most measures, is fourth.

UN should enlist EU to help fund the peacekeeping mission. I hope "EU" step forward with heavy funding to rebuild Africa since they benefited from mining ventures in Africa while neglecting African people by taking advantages of them! @UN @cnni @BBCWorld @AJEnglish @guardian
