In a world of replicating replicators an original still stands out even if hidden behind a shield of pixilated copycats. 🌸

I believe this is true for most "experiences" these days, unfortunately. I challenge anyone to leave their cellphone in the purse or pocket and just look, and register feelings, the next time you have the opportunity.

When I saw the painting, I was literally pushed aside by tourists who wanted their selfies. It was kind of like an abbatoire. You really need to be with the painting to appreciate it.

She’s not always that busy. The Mona Lisa is almost always swamped, but I’ve seen the Venus with virtually no one else on several occasions. I suggest making the trip outside tourist seasons and on lower attendance days. Avoid the free entry days if you can afford to.

My point is the phones, not the size/frequency of the crowds.

I see. Doesn’t bother me at all that people take pictures or selfies with the art. I don’t think it’s indicative of anything except that we got the technology to do that.

This is what was going through my mind when I saw some masterpieces by Dali, Gogh, et al. at @MuseumModernArt. I remember deciding to put my camera away so I could just have a more direct experience.

I would be “looking at it” for as long as they let me and then take a digital photograph to preserve my memory of the day. Whether I was using my old Brownie camera from the 1950’s or my iPhone now is of little matter.

I agree with the live and let live sentiments but phone wreck the experience unnecessarily for people who just want to look at the picture. Ban the phones in public venues.
