How did the Id him as a suspect?
-
Discarded DNA, which as I understand it is like snotty tissues, used gum, fingernail clippings, etc. There was a years-long backlog of DNA testing and it was just processed last week. Apparently LE had been looking at him for a while but didn't have enough for an arrest warrant.
-
Correction: I was wrong; there was no backlog delay, LE just got the discarded DNA sample recently.

Has anyone heard how they got him on their radar? I know they have a DNA match, but what made them start investigating this guy and checking his DNA?
-
It is the cops “closing” a case involving another cop. We will never know the truth.
