Whatever your politics, the laws of economics apply. Provide incentives not to work and the result is not only costly for the treasury, but counterproductive for encouraging individuals to improve their lot. #badpoliciesmatter @ScrewedbyState @PlagueofProgs @mises @HooverInst

Important to note: they aren't stopping the program b/c it didn't work. they are stopping it b/c people are "uncomfortable" with the idea. The article notes that universal income may be "redundant" b/c Finland already has virtual universal income via healthcare, college, etc.

This may be the main reason that basic income has lost momentum: It is effectively redundant. Health care is furnished by the state. University is free. Jobless people draw generous unemployment benefits. “In a sense,” said Mr. Hiilamo, "Finland already has basic income.”

This is useful for current Mexican presidential candidates that are offering to give away tax payers money to needy people and, in fact, to all people with a mexican birth certificate. Big mistake!

Alaska has universal basic income. They call it an oil resource dividend. $5000/year is not enough to make most people stop working. But it's a good enough amount to let most entrepreneurs takes some risks and build something new.

Liberals: People unemployed for long periods of time just need a break. They've been treated unfairly. Conservatives: They obviously don't want to work!!! Some people are lazy and unmotivated. Free money doesn't help. Just another issue liberals are delusional about
