A new study casts doubt on the prevailing theory of President Trump’s rise: It found that fear of losing privilege, not economic anxiety, was behind his appeal. One reader's reaction: https://nyti.ms/2HrjmwE pic.twitter.com/rUoXUO9ki4

Fear of losing privilege, eh? Seems like you left out a key word - white - and why are you talking in euphemisms? No matter what words you use to describe them, those Trump voters who fear losing their white privilege are racists and bigots at heart.

What’s sad is that the average Trump voter is more closely aligned in many respects with the urban poor than they would care to admit. They are being harmed by Trump’s efforts to transfer wealth upward & to eliminate the social safety net, but they are to angry & bigoted to care.

32 years of corrupt presidents destroyed the US middle class, jobs, factories, and opportunities to fund their pay to play and illegal deals. You call that privilege? Americans were barely surviving economically under Obama and now they are thriving. I call that good policy.

Because losing privilege is step 1 to oppression. The idea is to extend privilege to those that don't have it, not take it away from those that do. The spreading of civil rights was extending, not taking. Every instance in history of removing privilege has resulted in oppression.

It’s not removing overall privilege it’s removing the exclusivity of certain privilege

We just said literally the same thing. Extending privileges to those that don't have it = eliminating exclusivity of privilege. It's exactly the same, so I'm glad we're in agreement
