The lawyer representing 2 former NFL cheerleaders has a proposal: If her clients can have a 4-hour meeting with Commissioner Roger Goodell, they will settle all claims for $1.https://nyti.ms/2qWnUzW

If the NFL rejects the proposal, the complaints made by the former cheerleaders would continue through due process. If the NFL accepts it, there is no guarantee that it would greatly improve conditions for cheerleaders. http://nyti.ms/2qWnUzW pic.twitter.com/WFRvoVfURX

Please, @nytimes , if you are going to post a link to an article in a public forum such as Twitter, make it available for ALL to read - not just subscribers. Thanks.

Do you often click on ads thinking you're going to get a free product?

Journalism isn’t a “product” in the sense you’re using here. The NYT sells ads. The clicks they generate from plugging articles on twitter are actually the “product” that they sell to advertising firms. Subscription revenues are minimal.

How is this unkind? It’s factual. Subscriptions were not a big piece of revenue 20 years ago. Now they are.

I would normally agree with the cheerleaders, but you know exactly what you're getting into when you try out, it's not a secret how you're treated or how you're paid. If you continue to apply for the job that your own doing.

Would you have said the same when women were just beginning to enter the workforce? Why should women keep applying to be businesswomen/lawyers/doctors/etc? They know how they’ll be treated?

This idea of young woman smiling, shaking pom poms on the sidelines is archaic. Today's cheerleading is highly skilled highly athletic & stands on it's own as a sport.
