Cars are increasingly being used as weapons to murder people — let’s start discussing “regulating” and banning them
-
-
-
Kevin, the ownership and operation of cars is very tightly regulated.
-
Right. You take a written test that barely anyone fails then go and drive aroudn the city for 5-10 mins. Robust deterrent for bad people.
-
You can oversimplify this as much as you want for your hot take, but it doesn't change what's actually going on outside with the strict enforcement of rules regarding what types of vehicles are allowed on the road, the proper use of said vehicles, and the punishments for misuse.
-
Just like vehicles, many guns are disallowed. As for gun misuse and punishment, there is no doubt that US laws strictly penalize any wrongdoing.

A van? All by itself? Plowing down pedestrians on purpose? Has the NY Times considered doing a special exposé on vans & trucks spontaneously purposefully running down people? Maybe we should reconsider driverless cars & trucks.
