This has always been a need. It's only coming to light so NYCHA can sell off some of their property to private developers. More blacks and browns will be displaced to make room for gentrification. #smokeandmirrors.

This is only one of many examples of why government should not be involved in public housing.

Yeah cause no building owned by a private owner has ever had mold, or pests, or asbestos or lead paint.

You mean NYC has been failing to keep up its public housing and is now facing the bill for decades of neglect? Jesus wept, you people.

These problems must be solved. Ask Pentagon to audit military budget: remove bloat, antiquated weapons & "jobs"programs for defense contractors. We can still have a prepared, strong military, but have $ to address public housing, lead water pipes in Flint & infrastructure needs.

It's public housing. It's owned by the city. The city has failed to keep it in repair and people are being poisoned so it needs to be fixed. How is that leftist?

Meanwhile, in Baltimore, kids who live in public housing are being poisoned with lead paint, and women are being sexually harassed by employees of the Housing Authority.

Is this by any chance a sign of the neglect from many years of Republican mayoral incumbents starting with Giuliani and an indication of how @GOP truly feels about the poor and predominantly black tenants in these housing units?

From Jan 1, 1994 to de Blasio's election TWENTY YEARS LATER, all were Republican. Bloomberg was first elected as a Republican - and that's what he is. He changed to independent only because he wanted to run against Obama and couldn't win the GOP nomination. Watch your own shoes.

Sorry to disappoint you, I'm not Democrat, I'm Canadian. No dog in the fight. But I know BS when I see it, and you, sir, have a stranglehold of it. The last TWO DECADES from Giuliani to current mayor (now a Democrat) were Republican. Period. You can't BS your way out of it.
