Bezos has more wealth than nearly 1/2 the country, has monopoly in retail, cloud services and owns both a grocery chain & daily newspaper. It's time to regulate, tax and breakup the oligarchs and thier power

Suggesting that Amazon is a threat to democracy is ridiculous. Just like saying to bring back coal as a power source is good for the economy.

When did becoming a successful business (maker) become a bad thing? Since when did a better mousetrap or strategy become undesirable? Isn't transcendent customer service good? Has this narrative been coopted by the pointy hats too? Is http://Amazon.com winning too much?

How on earth is amazon a threat to democracy?
-
Money is power and too much power concentrated into one person's possession is dangerous to democracy
-
So what are you suggesting?
-
I'm suggesting Amazon is a threat to democracy, both in terms of how rich/powerful its owner is and in terms of how the company is run as a top-down enterprise where those in the lowest positions work to the point of exhaustion or even death.
-
So by it’s very nature capitalism is a threat to democracy? Do you feel this same way about Goldman Sachs?
-
Yeah. Democracy is, in so many words, one person–one vote; capitalism is one dollar–one vote. Capitalism will always have a funhouse mirror effect on democracy—for example, the phenomenon of regulatory capture https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regulatory_capture#United_States_examples …
-
Tell me, did this switch in your brain flick with just amazon or have you been railing against this for 40 years
-
It definitely feels like I've been on twitter for 40 years, but Amazon is just one particularly egregious example of a larger systemic problem
