Facebook's newsfeed is under fire for weakening rich democracies. In developing countries, its effect can be increasingly deadly.https://nyti.ms/2vymL7h

@facebook must be regulated as a utility. With an independent commission that issues reports on its activities. This is the only way they can be made to be responsible. Without that, they will simply conceal and evade, connecting with profit in the name of connecting the world.

Why these things mostly only happen with Muslims? And how are the muslim majority countries? West should do some research on muslim majority countries and the way they treat minority workers, rape n exploitaion of women workers and human rights over there. But nobody cares.

It’s absurd to blame Facebook for the actions of people. Facebook is a public discussion forum and has never claimed to be a news source. People talk about politics amongst other topics like various attempts at humour, Facebook provides the platform.

I get it. I also get that people have real difficulties thinking and reasoning for themselves. An upstream solution would include better parenting, education, and systems that put value on good analytic thinking skills - combined with reducing fears which distort the heart.pic.twitter.com/rT8YgQZMdv

Facebook is the primary source of information and communication in the developing world, so that directly inhibits people’s ability to get reliable information somewhere else.

Keeping information delivery as open and accessible as possible is best for people and honest governments. What is it that directly inhibits people’s ability to get news somewhere else, and where else are you referring to?

I am happy that structural crimes of facebooks are noted, finally. I hope facebook would be brought to justice.

Social media needs very responsible people to handle it. Many places suffered communal riots, looting and arson due to fake news fanned by the irresponsible attitude of the handlers. Facebook needs constant vigil against such fake inputs that may result in bloodshed.
