Two decades ago now defunct Northwest airlines fired all their maintenance crews and contracted the services to the lowest bidder, other carriers follow thru. Who is working on your plane low skill subcontractors. Still safest way to travel but not as safe as it once was...

when you fly buy those short term flight life insurance policies, I mean that. I know a family travels I separate flights just in case one half will survive. We are a banana republic people, we have become one.
-
Have been lobbied by the operators for a long time to reduce licensed staff/support at maintenance visits.
-
In Mexico where C&D inspections are conducted only one in twelve is licensed.
-
This is on the wish list of Erupean operators as well, they are pushing hard for it. But if your ticket don't even cover the fuelcost, thats what you get one can argue.
-
I am not sure fuel is the issue, American carries are breaking profit records, charging for everything except visits to the toilet that will be coming soon. When my wife flies twice a year I buy her a first class fare the difference is nominal. They have become buses with wings.
-
The bus is still flying at some 30k’ at high speed. If one dial back the safety margin learned through exp there will be more incidents like this and all is not going to end well.

I wholeheartedly believe that. Who can experience a fellow human sucked out window & CPR'd, have heroes fly their plane to safety. mmhmm
-
Agree completely - how could it not?

Second most important point of the subject is still untouched: what did that?
-
NTSB initial inspection revealed a hidden crack which caused a fan blade to separate and tear apart the engine. Further details will be in their final report.

Actual badassery: wow, that's really impressive, I am very impressed! Phony badass: yes, yes, that's very good and all, but mine is better, everyone says so, people are telling me all the time how great and huge and lovely mine is. Learn the difference. Then vote.

I can't imagine being able to be so calm and clear headed in the face of a disaster. She is an amazing pilot as r all the staff on that plane!

And yet another reason to lament the end of the four engine trans Pacific aircraft ... like the 747 and maybe soon Airbus 380 - one goes, three left but it is all in the name of profit? And cheap airfares!
