We invited America’s public school teachers to show us the conditions that a decade of budget cuts has wrought. An art teacher at a public school in Tennessee makes watercolors for her students using old markers. https://nyti.ms/2J1YjNv pic.twitter.com/O9furGvKTb

Highest per pupil spending in the world. Why isn’t the money making it to the kids. Something tells me that the administrators may have something to do with it!

The most recent OECD study (2014) shows that four countries: Austria, Luxembourg, Norway and Switzerland, spend more than the US on both elementary & secondary ed. I agree what matters most is how it is spent. Funds should be primarily for things that impact students directly.

It is Finland that I was thinking of. I hear the teachers have their office right of the side of their class room, the parents and teachers have close relationships, sounds like the fins have figured it out

Getting accepted to a SOE prog in Finland is rigorous. Ts are also paid well and tasted like professionals. I think that is directly linked to the level of respect teachers get. Respected and well paid professions attract the best people. The best people do the best job. #hmmmm

Right? Just dawned on me how wonderful Pinterest must be for teachers trying to creatively stretch their budgets. On the bright side, kids are learning to repurpose supplies which is a good life skill and good for environment but shameful it’s come to this.

So heartbreaking. I’ll never understand why people aren’t willing to pay taxes for everyone to have a better quality of life. If your community/country is doing better, don’t you think that means you’ll do better as well? Better education = better jobs & a better future for all!

My wife runs a summer go-fund me to get calculators for her high school math class. There are always families that can't afford a scientific calculator. Every extra gets used.

Tennessee has plummeted in school ranking from its glory days when Al Gore was representative and then senator and pushed for the high performance internet act of 1991. In those days we believed in education!
