Thirty years on, "Full Metal Jacket" remains one of my favorite movies. R. Lee Ermey accounts for at least 80% of that. If one has interest, the story of how he got that part is worth a few minutes: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093058/trivia …

An unforgettable performance. I disagreed with his real-life politics, but anyone who has seen FMJ should agree that it would not have been half the movie it was without him.

That is the most sexist movie of all time there was no female soldiers we have many that sign up to server are county
-
It was set during Vietnam. Women weren’t serving as combat troops at that time.
-
1. It was made 30 years ago. 2. Including women in a combat unit for the film would have been ridiculous. They didn’t fight for us in Vietnam, and it was set in Vietnam. You might as well lobby for Mickey Mouse to have been included. You’re barking up the wrong tree here.

This is pure ignorantness we have to learn from are mistakes and move forward or we will never get anywhere
-
So, never make another war movie set pre-Desert Storm? Yeah, that sounds reasonable.

Ermey went to director Kubrick & asked for the role of Gunnery Sgt. Hartmann. In his opinion, the actors on set were not up to snuff. When Kubrick declined, Ermey barked an order for Kubrick to stand up when he was spoken to, & the director instinctively obeyed. Ermey got role.
