The president, in declaring the mission accomplished, invoked a phrase made infamous by President George W. Bush in 2003, when he declared success in Iraq conflicthttps://nyti.ms/2H0umkl

Isn’t this the personification of “when you don’t learn from history you are bound to repeat it”?

Agreed. But using it by a President in a context where the conflict is not over was a poor (in hindsight) decision by Bush and a ridiculous decision by Trump. Troops remain, Syrian war continues, ISIS still there, Assad will still kill

Agreed. By the same token, Trump is jumping the gun here as well - whether the stockpiles were destroyed, whether Assad learned are still open questions. That phrase should be "saved" for when the mission is accomplished (e.g. civil war over, Assad down, destruction verified)

@realDonaldTrump Your mission hitted only 3 civilians, is that where your proud from? The war was about to end, and you let the war keep going for another five years and more people will die then because of your accomplishment. good job.

Why couldn’t we just send our “thoughts and Prayers” to Syria? It’s usually sufficient for the loss of American kids?

Because they're not Christian's. Trump doesn't really care about Syrians because they're Muslim. No prayers for them. This was just an opportunity to act tough. If they use non chem weapons, we won't do a thing.

I don’t believe Bush actually “invoked” this phrase. It was simply a banner hanging on the carrier. It was poor optics, but that was really it.

If there was ever a time when America's authentic enemies are busy scheming to take advantage of a vulnerable U.S. that time is now, the time of fools. The time of #Trump. We've never stood naked before the world, displaying our contradictory national shortcomings like today.
