Black mothers and babies die at more than double the rate of white mothers and babies. This woman’s harrowing pregnancy illustrates why.https://nyti.ms/2H3Snag

This story is BS. The woman in this story that is used as an example made poor life choices that have nothing to do with race. Being married, higher education and prenatal care all contribute to lower infant mortality rates regardless of race. We can all make better life choices.

I think Landrum’s stress was probably caused by her boyfriend who repeatedly assaulted and raped her. I mean, we could jump straight to racism, but this seems like a pretty major stressor, no?

We worry that black women won't get the access to medical advancements every woman should have when the focus is on reducing CS rates.

Yes, it seems to be universally the case that the more ways a person is viewed as being a 'minority' the worse treatment they will receive in many aspects of life. Existing inequality combined with a scary normal birth type agenda is a very concerning mix.

Conclusion jumping to "racial stress" as a likely cause, would do a lot better first stoping in single motherhood as a larger cause of distress, counting it has TRIPLED among Black Women since the Sixties! Rotten paternal support seems more plausible a cause than discrimination.

My guess would be this could be a direct result of poverty, leading to poor choices, becoming a vicious cycle which only education can break. I could be wrong.
