Black infants in America are now more than twice as likely to die as white infants — a racial disparity that is actually wider than in 1850, 15 years before the end of slaveryhttps://nyti.ms/2IOHvcO

I mean that is what the article is saying 'For black women in America, an inescapable atmosphere of societal and systemic racism can create a kind of toxic physiological stress, resulting in conditions that lead directly to higher rates of infant and maternal death'

Serious Question: Is this including the disproportional rate of abortion in the black community or just referring to death from complications?

No it dosn’t Include abortions. And in the face of the horror of losing an infant this is a pretty awful thing to suggest.

Nothing was suggested, it was a serious question. If included, it would certainly skew the numbers.

So then it turn we would have to look at the abortion rate of white women as well

If black infants are included then yes so should white. But the original commenters point was that black babies are aborted at a much higher rate (which is true) and wondered if abortions were included bc it could change the results

It has nothing to do with “polls”. It’s a series of large-scale medical studies that have been going on since the early 1990s. Nothing to do with Trump or Obama!

Ok but why this studies wasn’t this much upfront while Obama was a president? Well if this was known problem than what did he do in last 8 years ? I mean 8 years good time to come with some sort of solution or maybe just like DACA he put a band aid on it and let it be huh..

Question is what did Obama do for this problem in last 8 years? Isn’t 8 years good enough time to start and finish some projects? Why you all didn’t demand an action ?People spend so much money afford and time on Trump maybe they should use their money on this

Do you really have so little understanding about how scientific studies are conducted? This has absolutely nothing to do with who is president—you’re the only one mentioning trump and Obama, so I have to assume you’re a bot who is not at all interested in the actual issue.

Every time we turn the TV on,read papers &internet, watch entertainers to laugh all we hear people are blaming Trump for something so it is easy to think,he is getting blamed 4 this 1 too .Still Obama had 8 years had he not?any improvements on this issue? This is a valid question.

Except NOBODY in this thread is blaming Trump. To answer your ?—w/out knowing WHY something is happening, it’s hard to fix. The only “solution” discussed is a doula program for black women that started while Obama was prez (not that he had anything to do w/it), so there’s that.

This is disgraceful. Black lives matter too. I am tired of being treated like a second class citizen. Wake up America. You brought us here as slaves and it's time white Americans deal with the consequences of their actions. Slavery ended. We live here now. Deal. Do better.

besides race let's also speak to personal responsibility - if you do not have the means or desire to care for a child do not have one - that message applies to all races

The issue isn’t ppl having babies w/o means. It’s that the system doesn’t wrk for oppressed ppl in poverty (it should), esp w lives at stake

if you can't take care of yourself why would you bring a child into this world - aside from health care, there is nurturing, roof over their head, education, clothing, love - gov. doesn't require bringing children into the world - that's a personal choice for all races

How do you explain that the disparity exists AFTER controlling for income and education? A black woman w/an advanced degree is much more likely to lose her baby than a white woman w/an 8th grade education. An MD or PhD is probably taking pretty good care of herself.
