First off, haven't read the article. Would like to say that every prescription comes with literature on that medication. Also, if the people taking the anti-depressants had questions, ask your doctor or your pharmacist. One has to take some ownership on what they are ingesting.

They had no idea of the side effects of long term use/withdrawals when I was prescribed them 25 years ago.

Same here. I was told clinical trials had deemed Paxil safe. I was supposed to have them for 6 months. Ended up 6 years!

I have tried way too many antidepressants and quit them. But some make you physically Ill when you stop. Effexor was by far the worst.

What mg were you taking, I'm currently at a low dosage, but if I miss my dose, the side effects are disorienting and completely take over.

This was 20 years ago. And I had to stop taking because I lost my insurance. But it was a pretty high dosage. Now some meds I get brain zaps if I forget a dosage. And others no noticeable side effects. With effexor withdrawal I had flu like symptoms.

It's a psychological factor when we "think we can't live without them" but in all reality we can. We become highly dependant which can lead to a dangerous route of addiction. However, It's nothing new either.

Although that's true everyone is different. I'm speaking from what reports have published in past decades. Antidepressants get high prescribed for various reasons and the majority have shown it's hard for them to break away. So there's some truth in that too.

Some people can never go off them because their brains simply can't produce the chemicals necessary to keep them stable. My girlfriend finally has some level of a neurotypical life, which she cannot have without them. Psychotherapy doesn't replace neurotransmitters.

It's interesting to see so many people with advice that have never suffered from depression or anxiety. These drugs are a godsend for some people.
