I can speak to this. My sister managed to get off Effexor without help from any other drugs. But I'll tell you what, it was hell. For her AND for us.

I had a horrible withdrawal experience with Effexor. I developed an allergic reaction to it after being on it 3 mos to quit smoking. Worst drug ever.
-
when I went off Effexor I legitimately thought I was going to die. I had to go onto Zoloft to even partially mitigate the symptoms. Also when I tapered off Paxil it was also a nightmare. No doctor ever told me about either's severe withdrawal symptoms.
-
It was like having a severe flu. When I went off Paxil I was going outside in 30 degree weather in a tank top and short shorts because my hot flashes were so severe.

Please consider quality cognitive talk therapy before you put any pharmaceutical in your body. A psychiatrist wanted to shove seroquel down my throat on the second visit. I've been seeing a new therapist for 8 months now (can't prescribe pills) and I've become a new person.

I’m glad for you. Sadly this isn’t the outcome for many.

Withdrawal symptoms are a nightmare I get them even if I miss one day. Surely it shouldn’t be happening that quick? Also how can you suffer withdrawal if they’re non-addictive as the drug companies claim?
-
The drug companies changed the definition of addictive. It now mandates that a medication must cause “drug seeking behaviour” to be addictive. Massive physical withdrawal upon quitting it doesn’t count. It’s Bullshit.

Medical professionals are too free with prescribing medications instead of discovering what’s wrong and dealing with it. Medications are overused and chemically altering your brain in many cases are harmful

You can always quit if clinically warranted. With careful taper, most people don’t experience withdrawal symptoms.

Not all health plans cover psychiatric care. My health plan only covers my antidepressants which are prescribed by my PCP. It doesn't actually cover an appointment with an actual mental health professional.
