The Anne of Green Gables series, The Hobbit, pretty much anything by LM Montgomery. There are so many that when you touch the spine... The worlds they contain, whether magic, science, mystery, romance, action; they are all comforting.

When ‘Breath Becomes Air’ is a non-fiction autobiographical book written by Paul Kalanithi. It is a memoir about his life and illness, battling stage IV metastatic lung cancer. It was posthumously published. Found it strangely comforting.

'Good Omens' by Pratchett and Gaiman, because there's something very comforting about finding humor in the end times.

A good mystery takes ones mind off a lot of things. The Scandinavian authors are pretty good. The Reykjavik series by Indridason are recommended for starters

Agree w/writer who suggested Barbara Pym. Also, I have only recently started reading mystery/crime series for stress relief.Last summer read Donna Leon's Commissario Brunetti books, & now reading P.D. James's Adam Dalgleish books.Tried Louise Penny but found her tedious.

Rather like TV programmes. You don't look for "comfort books". They come to you unexpectedly. Which is why you appreciate them more
