The Vikings traveled long distances at the mercy of weather without magnetic compasses. Scientists developed new evidence to show how they did it.https://nyti.ms/2HeYG7E

If you needed any more evidence that ancient sailors were as clever as they were hardcore.

My Swedish grandfather (also in the merchant marines during WW2) told me about them when I was a young girl.

Well the Tahitians did so as well. Seems like this was no big deal back in the day.

They used secondary cues more than sunstones. Seagulls, smells, the release of ravens, and sailor’s intuition and experience. They’ve missed all these which were way more important.

Thx. I’ll be forever grateful to the seafaring Vikings for spreading orange cats wherever they went. Small things keep us going.

Well, and heres a really cool link at the end of this story-the ability to amble in horses is genetic, they know exactly which gene it is, and ambling horses may have been spread around the world by Vikings! So thank the Vikings if you live Missori Foxtrotters!
