President Trump says foreign workers on H-1B visas take jobs away from Americans. Employers say they fill a labor shortage. Who's right?https://nyti.ms/2Eo1xIv

So they can come here & not contribute? Isn't that a waste of MY tax dollars? Damn shame. Indian community is about the hardest working I know.
-
It feels good to hear encouraging words than the hate from many, who jump into conclusion without fully understanding the issue. Thank you my friend!
-
That’s exactly our argument, instead of being a liability we want to contribute to the growth of this economy. We bring along a culture of hard work, sincerity and lawful behavior. Our community’s record reflects that.

This is f***ing crazy. First of all, these are not H1Bs. These are people stuck in green card backlog due to incompetence of our legal immigration system. If they were from a different country than India they would be citizens by now.
-
Exactly the point. Thank you sir for explaining it so well

That's not Right! These people are coming to help American companies and you want to put them in poverty?

Any abuse should be tackled, and those who commit fraud should be punished. No two ways about it. But why do you want to paint the entire H1B program with the same brush? Its like - lock all humans up because a handful comitted crime. Think about it.

Now about H4EAD. H4 visa is for spouse of H1B and they STILL can't work. H4EAD on other hand, is only given to those spouses whose green card applications are approved, but can't be issued yet due to backlogs which run into decades, sometimes 70+ years. Hope I could explain.

Thanks a ton
@mirjordan and@nytimes for addressing this issue. Most of us are women and having the constant fear of not being able to contribute to our family and be a burden our whole lives. No one deserves this, especially when its no fault of yours.#SaveH4EAD@SaveH4EADs -
Thank you soooo much for covering this critical piece on skilled immigrant women frm India. It’s frustrating when u hv worked hard , studied ,patiently waited , paid taxes , planned your life and then face the threat of loosing ur right to work ...job.. career.. ur independence

Thank you NyTimes! I moved to U.S. from Canada as H4EAD gave me the opportunity to work here. Families make life decisions based on govt policies and it’s unfair to pull the rug from under us. We will eventually get Green Card so why waste our talent until then?

Secondly, these are highly educated English speaking model immigrants. Why is the administration punishing those who are following the law? We need to go after illegal immigration, build the wall and fix immigration laws.
-
Absolutely correct, we are adding value to the economy and deserve a better treatment.

H1B visas aren't cheaply paid.

I worked in USA on H1b for years and I can vouch for it... H1b is mostly abused by candidates with fake resume and cheap labor... not all but many!!!
-
So that calls for weeding out the fraud but not punishing the genuinely skilled and their families. There are MANY genuinely skilled folks out there as well
-
The technology I am in used to pay easily $100/HR in 2012... demand increased all these years and so as fake resumes... now it pays barely $60/hr... again thanks to the online trainings and fake resumes!!!
-
R u aware that doctors, Product managers, McKinsey/BCG/Bain consultants also get H1B visa ?Did you know that MBAs n masters from top tier U.S univs also get H1Bs.Many have starting salaries of 130K/yr base. This is NOT cheap labor n not frm outsourcing co.They r VERY sought aftr
-
I haven’t seen any H1b earning more than 120k getting denied... if somebody is high skilled why would he/she make 60-70k???
