We did not see this level of coverage back in the 90s when Bill Clinton campaigned on fair trade. The difference is: Trump is actually delivering and the propaganda machine can't handle it.

Amazing man, one minute he has shown partiality to big manufacturers and the next he has put them in the cross hairs of possible global trade war. Must be a love/hate relationship.

Not so NY Times, first rule in negotiations, come in strong and make a deal in the middle. By giving away the house to the chinese and others, we are not investing in our future here at home.

How the hell did he 'shield consumers?' Considering most of the vaunted Trump base shops at Walmart and Walmart is made in China.

How the hell is Trump shielding consumers? No, in fact he has thrown us all under a trade war bus so he can play big shot for his ego. He will soon find out that everyone, especially China knows how trade works, & american consumer's & distributors (+farmers) will pay

No doubt he thinks he's right. Problem is, he has no idea what he's doing & won't listen to those who do. It would be like you or me telling a doctor how to do brain surgery just be cause we think we have an idea about how it should be done. China knows & it will hurt all of us!

I don't disagree. But our farmers sell a lot of product to China, and those new tariffs will hurt our heartland and many other areas not related to cheap junk. Its what we also sell to them. Not a good idea to start a trade war with a population four times our size.

A trade war with China, not all world leaders are Bullshiters. Trump tough talk -no action, hoping his base only remembers the bluster. But to leaders like Xi, WORDS MATTER, he won't just talk, he will impose tariffs just to teach Trump a lesson. If Trump backs down, Xi WINS.
