Police officers shot and killed a black man in Brooklyn who was known to be mentally ill after he pointed what the officers believed was a gun at them, the authorities said. The object turned out to be a metal pipe with a knob on it.https://nyti.ms/2JnVw2e

2 things horribly wrong with this. 1) This killing by the police must stop. 2) Call this person a man not a black man. Shame on media for exploiting the color of a person’s skin. Do you think God cares what skin color he put on you? We are human beings not skin colors.

Considering it played a big role in the reason this man was shot, I’d say it’s pretty important to mention the black part...

I’d be surprised when police would be trending because they were able to handle a person without killing them, this is like so every day. Is there a non lethal option out there? Is there? Asking for a cop or military personnel.

You mean there is a non lethal force? You mean that has happened? I only see people dying because I guess nobody knows how to use that.

but you just said "do their jobs correctly" so you admit shooting prior to a genuine attempt to de-escalate a non-lethal situation is a gross perversion of their role, correct? I'm clarifying bc regardless of the media or good cops, these murderers very rarely even stand trial.

Okay, I’m sorry but the guy pointed a metal object that looked like a gun at police officers. Mentally ill or not, the shooting was justified. Wish they would’ve shot him in the leg or something but I understand that a body shot would’ve been more effective in that situation. Rip

Police are not trained to shoot people in any other part of body other than chest and head. Shooting somone anywhere else won’t stop them from what their main agenda is. So taking a risk of yourself getting shot is definitely not worth it.

I'm sorry but usually when you shooy someone in leg, they can't run anymore. If they shoot them in the chest or head, that's an execution. And often in these situations the coos shoot like 40 times and they grab their gun as their first method.

idk but getting shot in the leg will not and I mean will not stop a man from shooting someone. The fact that people in this country know laws and consequences and yet get mad when something like this happens is quite funny.

And he was using an object pointing it at people that looked a lot like a gun. It’s a split second decision what else do you expect to happen? With all that goes on in this world would you take a risk?

The Parkland shooter KILLED PEOPLE and came out alive. Stephon Clark was standing in his backyard holding a phone and facing away from police when he was shot. So in this case, whose fault is it? A mentally-ill man or the police who made a bad call with lasting consequences?

And if we are bringing in split second decisions as a factor on why law enforcement officers are justified to kill, regardless of whether it was the right decision, then perhaps we need to consider a future with weapons that can stop suspects without definitive consequences.
