And this is why I don't want a label...
for every 250 streams ($1) I get 85% ($0.85) with @soundrop .
I could pay rent if I somehow had 187.5K monthly streams XD
https://open.spotify.com/artist/0e2OzXdJJk5aoE5x5kDmjJ?si=YfjQhJ4CSze-o5uODuvstg …
99.98% more to go...
Also says something when I could make the same from 750 sales @Spotify

At least, it's far easier to get 187.5k streams a month than 750 sales. ;-)
-
you say that, but both seem pretty crazy right now XD my lifetime total across all platforms is around 15k XD and no sales
-
I'm close to 100k streams a month, and believe me, it's WAY easier than getting those sales numbers. ;-)
-
Most of the artists I see getting numbers in that range have built up a pretty significant catalog of tracks. It's pretty rare that anyone (in our world, anyway) is getting that many streams on just a few songs.
-
Yeah, I have a ton of releases and I'm not saying it's "effortless". It's about dedication to release enough. Ratio stream to sale is steep, though. Way harder to convince anyone to buy a song than to stream it. But I'm not complaining about Spotify's revenue, that's my point.
-
I recently purged most of my content since I've been improving (obvs step one is good music, so making sure of that XD)
-
Good music, frequent releases, and then you get that "M". Good luck! ;-)pic.twitter.com/Il0lddtTB5

So? We get cheaper music. If I really like it, I will see the person live. If the Album includes artwork, I will buy it. If they suck and have no talent, why should they make millions making cheap music?

I think “flows” is the wrong word. “Trickles” would be more apropos.

Split that five ways...

The reason why I buy merch, cd’s and tickets to shows - I love Spotify but never realised it’s diluted that much by the time it reaches the artist

Spotify keeps getting blamed for making money, yet the record label takes 2x as much.

Sure, but spotify is glbal and I'd rather have 1000 18cents cobtributions than 12 40cents ones

Spotify found a way to monetize people who would have otherwise stolen the music, and then everybody else realized that it was the option that made the most sense. As soon as they think that the service is worth more than $9.99 I they'll lose a lot of subscribers.

@lilyallen Just to point out that in general 1 stream = about 0.006 c, so about 17k streams needed to generate that $ -
Interesting. By my calcs that means an artist needs almost 100,000 streams to make $1 in royalties?
