Researchers have found that daughters generally have closer ties to their own parents than to their in-laws, which leads to warmer relationships between their children and the maternal grandparentshttps://nyti.ms/2J9QKFs

Researchers found that a child is closer to their parents than to people they’re not related to?🧐

Another conclusion that doesn’t require research 🙃

‘A son is a son till he takes a wife, but a daughter is a daughter for the rest of your life’ Sorry for the very old thinking expressed in this lyric. But it illustrates what has always been known...without research. 🙃

Ugh. My MIL used to say this every time we VISITED her. We were there way more than we were at my folks but she'd trot it out every damn time.

Very frustrating for husbands. I can’t imagine not seeing my parents esp with the children! Put your foot down and INSIST that the kids should visit w your folks as well. Life is too short to not be in each other’s lives.

Not to mention the MILs who don’t care to have a relationship with the DIL, only her son. Now she wants the grandbaby? NOPE. It’s all about respect, and it’s a two-way street.

Bingo! My MIL expressed her displeasure with the fact that we only gave her granddaughters. Kids pick up on stuff like this. She can’t bitch if they wanted to spend more time with the grandmother who adored them just for being her grandchildren.

It’s like they don’t get it’s not about them. Too bad. They’re the ones missing out not the kids 🤷🏻‍♀️

I mean... For most women who want their mothers in their lives and who have also had kids, the bond of becoming also a mother and that camaraderie is immensely powerful. So, no wonder. My friend, however... She prefers her in-laws a million times over.

Then you factor in how many families are divorced and how often mothers end up the primary care-taker, and it's like. Of course the kids will see the maternal grandparents in that scenario more. For better or for worse.

This paints the DIL in a very cold, controlling light. What about when the in-laws are the controlling, selfish, cold people?
