When Live Nation and Ticketmaster merged, officials suggested competition would thrive. Instead the giant company’s power has drawn complaints.https://nyti.ms/2Gqoqwx

“When Live Nation and Ticketmaster merged, officials suggested competition would thrive.” There are few utterances more profoundly stupid & craven than that, & from bought-off officials who’ve gutted our antitrust laws & made us miserable as consumers. But we keep electing them.

The merger pulled off a pretty neat trick. It screwed both fans AND musicians.

They treat keen fans with contempt ("prove to us you're not a robot") by tempting them with a presale so they can palm off their worst tickets until better ones 'become available' at a later date, the best selling up to 5 times the face value. They're an opportunistic disgrace 🎫

They also run StubHub and scalp the tickets they sell at a higher price not only ripping off fans but taking a bigger cut from artist and athletes

I stopped going to shows that involve Ticketmaster / Live Nation. Sad to say, but I have a moral obligation to not line the pockets of the greedy.

Yes, it does seem that the creation of giant companies doesn't serve anyone well, except those at the very top.
