I like that the 30yo virgin is trying to put down someone for being a middle school teacher.

I wasn't sure how his job was relevant but I suppose since it's a story about the writer, it's to let the reader know that she's more successful.

Where did she put him down for being a middle school teacher? She said he taught at the same school he attended which she thought was adorable. That's not a put down. People tend to describe people by their profession, that's what she did.

"That’s how I ended up losing my virginity on a fourth date with a middle-school teacher that I didn’t even particularly like. Because I thought I was dying." We certainly can interpret things differently but if he were a cardiologist, I can't see the same sentence being written

I honestly don't see how it would make a difference: middle school teacher, cardiologist or janitor. She didn't like the man, not his profession. Did you read the article? The thing she mentioned she didn't like was that he never complimented her.

In an oversexed age, one kind of understands why someone might consider dying a virgin, a fate worse than death, though it doesn't make it right or sane.
