There’s been talk of bankruptcy swirling around Gibson, the Nashville-based guitar company. What happened?https://nyti.ms/2GJOkz3

I’m a Fender guy who has always wanted a Les Paul. I just bought one. Quality control at Gibson is not what it is at Fender. They need to drop their dreams of technologically improving an electric guitar and get back to the basics.

without reading the article i’m gonna go ahead and assume it has a lot to do with how well made their guitars used to be. they make a sale on a guitar one time 50 years ago that’s still in circulation today. and most of the *millenial* musicians i know prefer vintage gear to new.

AHAHAHA no, Gibson is just a garbage company with overpriced products, terrible quality control and zero innovation in recent years. They've been completely outclassed by Fender, Ibanez, ESP and loads of other guitar companies. Also rock isn't dead. Check out Thee Oh Sees.

I have a 65 Gibson acoustic. My father bought it for me when I was 12 years old. It cost $140 which was a lot of money for him. That guitar has traveled all over the northeast with me. Camping trips, gigs & back & forth to college. Still have it! Well made, sweet instrument!

My 2013 LP Standard cost me $2800. It's a good guitar but they've priced themselves right out of the market. I'm totally not surprised sales are anemic and profits are low.

Let's face, the average Millennial today does not have a hobby, does not have a passion: if they want music they download it. Nobody collects stamps, or rocks or anything: if it's not on Aliexpress or Amazon, it is not worth it.
