M.Rajoy has spread the illegal addition to the referendum of October 1, but the Court declared it unconstitutional. (Many jurists believe that the Constitution allowed the Referendum) In addition, the Constitution itself abides by international treaties.

The treaties included the right to self-determination. That right, is recorded in the official bulletin of State (BOE) right to self-determination.

In terms of public funds, Catalonia takes almost a year justifying each of their payments to Madrid. The own Mr. Montoro, Treasury Minister acknowledges that it has not spent a penny in the referendum.

I would add, that Spain has said spending €87.000.000 in trying to prevent this referendum

Unfair arrest of the catalan leader I would say. We voted him for his program and we won’t stop fighting , always on a pacefull way, until he and the other catalan politicians are free. #FreePuigdemont #SomRepública

Rajoy is a total idiot. An incompetent politician who in stead of allowing a referendum in which he had 50% possibility of winning, killed democracy, corrupted the justice system and brought 21st Europe into the worst social crisis ever. And European leaders are clapping...

Hey!! If you want a referendum, why don't you do it legally?? Do u have to skip all laws in order to have it?? @nytimes do not buy the idea of skip all laws for have what u want... Btw.. just independent European leaders are clapping.. coincidence??

The fact that you even refer to a referendum as being illegal shows that you are not a democrat.

Europe, this is what you're dealing with in Spain. It's not for nothing that Catalonia wants to be free. Free of fascism. Free of repression. Free of dictatorship. No ens rendirem, guanyarem la República. #PrimaveraCatalana #FreePuigdemont #LlibertatPresosPolítics pic.twitter.com/itg7Dz9JbG

Does NYT know that Puigdemont was voted by just 21% of the voters and that all separatist parties together are a minority in CAT? Remember Abraham Lincoln “Don't interfere with anything in the Constitution. That must be maintained, for it is the only safeguard of our liberties.”
